64MHz to 1,700MHz Software Defined Radio

Any mode, anywhere

No drivers required! Device drivers are already included in your operating system – Windows, Linux or Mac OSX, 32 or 64 bit.

* In practice, the coverage of the FCD is typically from around 51.5MHz to over 2,000MHz, and there is a gap in coverage between about 1,100MHz and 1,270MHz.

the product easySDR usb dongle (http://microsat.com.pl/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=35) is same with the funcube dongle?

    • admin says:

      Hello Dimitris

No, it is a copy of the original FUNcube Dongle Pro, and it is most definitely not the same as the FUNcube Dongle Pro+ which is almost entirely a new design with more features and better performance.

      Many thanks, Howard

Any reasons there is a gap in coverage between about 1,100MHz and 1,270MHz ?
Why didn’t beginning at 30Mhz to over 2000Mhz, by design??

    Thank you

      Hello Moshe

The original FCD has a limitation in the LO which is integrated into the tuner chip where the VCO/PLL/divider chain does not operate in that range.

The original design criteria for the FCD was only to support the satellite band of 145.8MHz to 146.0MHz. There was no design requirement for anything else, so anything more is a bonus.

In the early days, we could not engage many of the tuner chip manufacturers. Most would not answer calls or emails. This pretty much determined the choice of tuner device.

      Many thanks, Howard

Hello. What are the advantages of your product to the RTL2832 + E4000 based?

    • admin says:

      Hello Igor.

Off the top of my head, for the FCD+:

      * LW, MW, HF and 6m Coverage
      * Better sensitivity: 2 to 3dB noise figure on VHF and UHF
      * Better selectivity: 11 discrete front end filters, including super sharp SAW filters for the amateur 2m and 70cm bands
      * Temperature compensated crystal oscillator
      * Designed from the outset to be compatible with almost all SDR software
      * No drivers to install or configure

I have tried posting to the wait list with 2 different email addresses and have received no response, automated or otherwise.

Kindly confirm me to the wait list and let me know when the FCDP+ will be available.

    Thank you,

    Hi There

I am new to the Ham world and wish to use my iPhone 5´s iSDR app and your FUNcubeDongle Pro +. Is that at all possible? If so how does one connect them together? Do I need any other components other than an antenna to use the Dongle with my iMac as well?

    • admin says:

      Hello Egill.

There are a couple of issues with iOS to deal with here. First, iOS limits current to about 20mA with the camera connection kit, so you’d need to use an external powered hub to support the 160mA that the FCD+ requires. Second, you would need to have something to communicate to the USB HID interface to control the frequency. Third, iOS does not support USB audio at 192kHz. I do have a special version of firmware I’ve been working on that does work at a supported iOS 48kHz rate, however without a USB HID interface it’s of little use currently.

I am currently working on figuring out if USB HID is workable without having to deal with Apple’s MFi program: I have already had dealing with Apple regarding MFi and to be honest if it can possibly be avoided, do so. Bear in mind that Apple are notoriously difficult in allowing apps that use APIs that are part of NDAs such as MFi.

I’m also working on something else that I think will be far more useful in the longer term.

      Many thanks, Howard

Please advise about using the FunCube pro + with Mac OSX.
What SdR software would be best to use with the Mac? Or does the FunCube have its own console built in?

  12. Ted - WFØN says:

Will the FCD work OK with the MAP65 program or will I need to buy the FCD+ ?

    • admin says:

      Hello Ted

YEs I believe that the MAP65 program does work with the original FCD.

      Many thanks, Howard

Will you start manufacture of Funcube Dongle Pro again?

Or is it just Pro+ nowadays?

    • admin says:

      Hello Erik

There are no plans to make any more of the original FCD’s. Although we have plenty of bare boards, one of the parts we need has been unavailable for over a year now.

      Many thanks, Howard
